IKEA is leading an initiative that recycles waste polystyrene to remanufacture new mattresses, extending the life of products already manufactured. Its goal is to use at least 20% recycled materials in foam production by 2025.

Businesses usually spend expensive handling, transportation and landfilling fees to discard waste polystyrene into landfills which is a large burden to the environment. But actually, polystyrene is 100% recyclable. Through recycling foam, it can be broken down and reused in the manufacture of new products, accordingly reducing the requirement of raw materials and conserving natural resources.
INTCO Recycling has developed a professional GREENMAX foam cold compactor, which can make the recycling of polystyrene a much easier and safer thing. This equipment can be used to process polystyrene with water, such as fish boxes, fruit and vegetable boxes, etc. The waste foam is put into the feeding bin by the operator, and will be crushed into foam scraps by the spiral knife and enter the bottom bin. These foam scraps will be extruded by the screw into compact foam blocks, with a general density of up to 200-400kg/m3. Meanwhile, the machine is equipped with automatic transmission and cutting functions, which improves the automation and convenience of production. When the screw pushes the foam blocks out on the conveyor belt and reaches a certain distance, the machine will start the automatic cutting function to cut the long continuous polystyrene blocks into small pieces to facilitate direct handling by workers.
