As it is reported that Long Beach, CA leaders may move forward with a proposed law that would ban foam plastic takeout containers at all city restaurants, in attempt to curb the amount of plastic pollution littering the city’s parks, beaches and waterways.
According to the Ocean researchers, the food packaging containers, composed primarily of polystyrene, are considered one of the biggest sources of marine litter because this material does not biodegrade. On the contrary, it can easily break down into tiny pieces that will end up on streets, beaches and in oceans. Ultimately, the waste trash will be ingested by the birds or fish mistakenly as food.
Especially in this year, a lot of places have banned the use of polystyrene food containers such as Del Mar City, West Hollywood and San Francisco.
