The EPS Industry Alliance (EPS-IA) applauded the Biden-Harris Administration’s recent announcement of a $100 million investment in recycling infrastructure projects. The waste EPS foam will first be collected and then ground into small pellets, after that, they will be made into recycled foam with the compression of an EPS recycling densifier. When recycled, EPS foam is a good material for the recycled plastics market and has a wide range of applications, for example, it can be reproduced as mirror frames, picture frames, building material lines and so on.
The EPS pollution is mainly an environmental problem and the major cause is the improper disposal of waste foam products. In the past years, people used to deal with waste EPS products by landfilling, burning and throwing them into the rivers or the ocean. Approximately 260 categories of animals have been found eating or becoming entangled in foam products. It is currently estimated that about 400,000 marine mammals die every year due to EPS pollution. In 2004, there were an average of 30 pieces of plastic in the stomachs of gulls in the North Sea. However, many countries have recognized the negative impact that non-degradable materials can have on the environment and have made efforts to find alternatives to handle the waste foam products. At present, the most appropriate solution is to mechanically recycle foam. Using an EPS densifier to recycle can help reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills and protect the environment.
