University of Georgia in USA report that the research is related to 190 coastal countries and regions, according to the coast of 50 kilometers away from these places in 2010 within population density, the amount of waste per capita per year, the proportion of waste plastic waste, plastic waste undue proportion of data to calculate the annual amount of plastic waste into the ocean.
The results indicate that these coastal countries and territories to produce 275 million tons of plastic waste in 2010, estimated that about 8 million tons have been thrown into the sea.
The study also showed that the number of plastic garbage into the ocean is rising year by year and it is estimated there will be double in 2015 compared to 2010, while the total amount of plastic waste in the oceans will reach to 155 million tons.
The researchers also said that a population and the quality of national waste management generally determines the amount of marine plastic waste that produces, and lists the 2010 discharge of plastic waste into the sea up to 20 countries, including the United States, which is the only one to be listed in developed countries.
In order to prevent a further increase of plastic waste into the ocean, the researchers called for developed countries to take immediate action to reduce the amount of waste generated and to control the use of disposable plastic products; and for developing countries, the most important thing is to improve the waste disposal infrastructure but this requires a lot of resources and time.
